Patricia Field Talks About The Costumes On “And Just Like That…”, And Said Cynthia Nixon Doesn’t Get It

And Just Like That…hasn’t even caught its breath from the recent wave of unsavory association it found itself in last week, and already it’s being dragged into more drama. Except for this time, it’s a good old-fashioned feud. Much like Kristin Davis’ recent throw-down against the haters whispering about her face, we’ve got another hater hating on one of the core ladies of the show. Patricia Field, iconic costume designer for Sex and the City, decided to give her two cents on the fashions of And Just Like That…, and just like that, we learned that Patricia probably didn’t get along with Cynthia Nixon that well when she was fitting her for Miranda’s serious lawyer pantsuits.

Patricia Field isn’t doing the costumes on And Just Like That…, because she’s busy dumping berets on Lily Collins for Emily in Paris. But Patricia worked on Sex and the City, so that gives her some authority to speak on the current wardrobe worn by Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. Surprisingly, her comments were not limited to a single question about what kind of I-got-dressed-in-the-dark nonsense those three are wearing episode to episode. The styling on And Just Like That…is done by Molly Rogers, who is a former colleague of Patricia’s, and generally, Patricia likes what she sees. At least on Sarah Jessica Parker. Here, let’s let Patricia take it away! via Entertainment Tonight:

Asked to share her opinion on the fashion in And Just Like That…, which was cultivated by former colleague Molly Rogers, she admitted, “I like some of it, I don’t like all of it, but I know what Molly’s dealing with.”

“I know those gals! Sarah Jessica [Parker] thinks she knows everything – and she does. Cynthia Nixon thinks she knows everything – and she doesn’t! Even today, when I speak with Molly, it’s about Cynthia. I say, ‘I remember what you are going through.'”

Um, so I guess Patricia voted for Cuomo?

Among the ten million times Kim Cattrall spoke out and said she didn’t like working on Sex and the City, was the time she said that it felt like she had a toxic relationship with her co-stars. And I always thought that was a direct dig at Sarah Jessica Parker. But what if it was Cynthia Nixon?! I can’t pass judgment either way, because this is a Pat Said vs. No Response Yet situation, as Cynthia has yet to talk about this. And before I pick a solid side, I need a definitive answer on one thing. This outfit… including mock belted white slacks and a collarless Mormon church teen blouse. If that was picked by wardrobe and challenged by Cynthia, who lost, then yeah – Cynthia has good instincts. But if that was the result of Cynthia yelling, “This IS present-day Miranda!!“, then I’m sorry, but yeah. Patricia was right to receive an exasperated phone call.

The Chris Noth Allegations Have Put The Second Season Of “And Just Like That…” In Limbo

Some Sex and the City purists might argue that HBO’s revival, And Just Like That…, isn’t worth a damn without Samantha Jones, and others might suggest it’s a confusing mess of a million questionable storylines and horrible costumes. But the premiere of And Just Like That… gave HBO Max its strongest series debut when it dropped earlier this month, and there have been rumors that it won’t be a one-season series. So it’s not stretching your imagination too hard to picture a second season. But according to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, the whole situation with Chris Noth has kind of caused everyone to hit the brakes on talk of Season 2.

Chris Noth got a ton of attention after the premiere of And Just Like That…, specifically for *that moment*. But about a week later, Chris’ name trended for a completely different reason. Two women accused him of sexual assault, which was followed by Zoe Lister-Jones claiming he sexually harassed her on the set of Law & Order, then another woman with allegations of assault, and then a fourth woman followed with similar accusations of sexual assault. After the third allegation was made, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis released a joint statement saying that they were “deeply saddened” and that they supported the women who came forward and spoke out. A source tells Us Weekly that they’re still shaken up and have stopped talking about a second season. via Us Weekly:

“There was talk about doing another season, but after the past few days all those conversations have stopped,” the source explains. “Everyone is raw.”

Another source previously told UsWeekly that SJP was “blindsided” by the accusations, and was extremely mad that Chris Noth’s alleged abuser energy is overshadowing a show she worked so hard to build.

“She is fiercely protective of Carrie Bradshaw and livid that she and everyone else at the show has been put into this position,” an insider recently told Us. “It is not about the money, but rather her legacy. Carrie was all about helping women and now, under her watch, women are saying that they have been hurt.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean that there will be no second season of And Just Like That…, it just technically means that no one wants to have any conversation about the show right now. But eventually, those working on And Just Like That… will start to feel comfortable talking about a possible S2. Especially since – and a big SPOILER here – they don’t have to bring back Chris Noth. Mr. Big isn’t on human terms with life anymore in the And Just Like That… universe, so it’s not like they have to stress out about how they’re going to discuss his absence. If anything, I could see those who are very protective of the Carrie brand making sure to reflect Chris Noth’s current situation in Mr. Big’s legacy. “Miranda, Charlotte – come quick! I just got a letter saying they did a second autopsy on Big, and they discovered the actual cause of death was acute trashitis. Also, that he pooped himself when he passed, and that he was guilty of using cheap hair dye. And I found his credit card receipts – he was an 8% tipper. Not a great guy after all!

Michael Patrick King Says The Door Isn’t Open For Kim Cattrall To Make An Appearance On “And Just Like That…”

The season finale of the Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That…, will be available tomorrow on HBO Max and so Variety has an interview with creator Michael Patrick King. In it, he talks about the reactions to the series which sees the return of Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. As we know, Kim Cattrall wants nothing to do with the show anymore. And MPK also says that the door for her to return is closed. “Bitch, I wasn’t even looking at that door!” said Kim Cattrall somewhere.

In his interview with Variety, MPK confirms that the third movie of the series was going to be about Big (Chris Noth) dying, but he was glad it never happened (thanks to Kim saying “fuck off”) because he was able to then use a Peloton to kill off Carrie’s (SJP) husband in a longer TV series and really explore that. While a second season has not officially been ordered, MPK confirms that he’s already talking about scheduling with SJP and that they “did something that was hard to do, which is we took something familiar and did make it new… for better and for worse.” I would emphasize the latter half of that statement.

But thanks to some “momentum,” MPK and co. want to start production on a new season sooner than later. And HBO execs may agree, as Casey Bloys, the chief content officer at HBO and HBO Max, says the show is HBO Max’s most successful original series to date and that “in terms of viewership, it’s been phenomenal. I couldn’t be happier with how it’s doing in terms of reception.”

If the series does come back again, Samantha will not be there. MPK says that dream is over:

Variety: “Is the door open for her to come back? Would that ever happen?”

MPK: “No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in And Just Like That… because she’s said what she had said. The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction. You take people at their word, and you’re a smart producer–you don’t back yourself into a corner. Magically thinking, it’s great to have Samantha. I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again.”

Variety also asked MPK about the sexual assault allegations against Chris Noth. MPK wouldn’t get into that but confirms that Chris was cut from the ending of the show:

Variety: Sexual assault allegations against Chris Noth were reported in mid-December. How did you experience that news?

MPK: I can’t comment on it. It really has nothing to do with me, and no comment on those allegations.

Variety: Can you talk about the logistics of cutting Chris Noth’s image from the finale, and how that worked?

MPK: I wanted the show to be focused on the stories of these amazing actresses and their efforts in these last 10 episodes. And I didn’t want the entire story to be about whether someone was or wasn’t in the show. Mr. Big and Chris Noth, they’re not the same person– and that would’ve made them the same person.

Obviously, AJLT’ssuccess” is thanks to everyone hate-watching the shit out of it. Who needs a heart-attack-inducing Peloton when you can burn calories and get your heart rate up by screaming at the insufferableness of that mess. Honestly, thank the gods that AJLT… is bad. I used to be Team Bring Back Samantha, and now I’m Team Let Her Rest!

No, Sarah Jessica Parker Would Not Be Okay With Kim Cattrall Showing Up On “And Just Like That…”

In the finale (or season finale) of the Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That…, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw connects again with Samantha Jones through texts and (!!!!!!!SPOILER ALERTS AHEAD!!!!!!), it seems like they’re on the way to patching things up. But that doesn’t mean that Kim Cattrall’s Samantha is going to show up in season two (if there is a season two) of AJTL. Because creator Michael Patrick King already said that the door is closed on Kim returning to the show. And now SJP has co-signed that. But SJP wants to make it clear that Kim Cattrall and Samantha Jones are completely separate and while Kim may be gone from the SATCverse, Samantha is not. You hear that, Christina Aguilera?! Call your agent because your Samantha Jones impersonation may be needed.

While talking about the finale with Variety, MPK and SJP briefly got into Chris Noth’s Mr. Big getting cut from the final episode. MPK says that Chris Noth getting the chop was not solely due to the sexual assault allegations against him, saying it wasn’t necessarily a “political” action and he wasn’t sure Mr. Big would’ve made it into the episode anyway.

“There’s an artistic element to this that’s not just political,” he said, and in the edit, King may have decided that it didn’t work, even without the baggage of what Noth has been accused of. “Dreams are always dicey,” he said.

As for Samantha Jones, Kim Cattrall has said before that she’s done with SATC and has moved on. But when rumors of a second season of the revival first started, it was suggested the door was always open for Kim to come back. But NO! That’s not the case anymore. At the very end of the finale, Carrie texts Samantha asking if she’d like to get together for a cocktail. Samantha texts back right away asking if tomorrow works. That is just nuts because Samantha Jones would not text back that fast like she’s desperate! Stop spitting in my face with these lies. But according to SJP, we’ll never see them have that cocktail because she says that Kim is never coming back, mostly because of all the public history they have.

If some miracle were to happen, and Cattrall wanted to play Samantha again, would Parker be OK with that? “I don’t think I would, because I think there’s just too much public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared,” Parker said. “I haven’t participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know…”

“We didn’t go to Kim for this, you know,” Parker said. “After we didn’t do the movie and the studio couldn’t meet what she wanted to do, we have to hear her and listen to her and what was important to her. It didn’t fit into what was important or needed for us.”

“There’s a very distinct line between Samantha and Kim,” Parker continued. “Samantha’s not gone. Samantha’s present, and I think was handled with such respect and elegance. She wasn’t villainized. She was a human being who had feelings about a relationship, so I think we found a way to address it which was necessary and important for people that loved her.”

Samantha Jones is most certainly not present. Samantha would’ve slapped some sense into Miranda for dropping her entire life for someone who is obviously going to drop Miranda fast. And Samantha would’ve let Carrie know that if she wants to get into podcasting, true crime podcasts are really where it’s at. And Carrie could start with the true crime that is And Just Like That…

“Sex And The City” Author Candace Bushnell Was “Startled” By HBO Max’s “And Just Like That…”

Sex and the City‘s author Candace Bushnell, says she was “startled” by a lot of the decisions of the reboot series, And Just Like That… She says in a new interview with The New Yorker that the series is definitely not what she would have expected it to be, calling it a “television product” where Carrie Bradshaw ended up a “quirky girl who married a rich guy.” BLOOP! I mean… I couldn’t help but wonder… was Candace right?

Candace wrote the original columns in The Observer titled Sex and the City which was turned into a book of essays before it became an HBO series. The show and columns are pretty vastly different originally, so this new social-justicey AJLT… must be making Candace’s head spin. Before the show came out, Candace commented on Kim Cattrall‘s absence, saying that Kim is a “grown woman” and can make her own choices. And when talking about Michael Patrick King‘s revival series, Candace says that the show is not her story at all, via Us Weekly:

“I’m really startled by a lot of the decisions made in the reboot,” she told The New Yorker in an interview published on Wednesday, February 16. “You know, it’s a television product, done with Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker, who have both worked with HBO a lot in the past. HBO decided to put this franchise back into their hands for a variety of reasons, and this is what they came up with.”

Bushnell continued: “I mean, Carrie Bradshaw ended up being a quirky woman who married a really rich guy. And that’s not my story, or any of my friends’ stories. But TV has its own logic.”

But if you’d ask Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, of course, what she thinks about Candace’s thoughts, she’d probably say she doesn’t care. Because when asked by Vogue about the backlash to the revival, Cynthia said, “If you’re looking for Sex and the City, you should watch the reruns. This is a new show for this moment and for the moment in these original characters’ lives.”

Candace also mentioned her SATC sequel book as well as writing a pilot based on that book:

Bushnell, for her part, returned to her original SATC characters in her 2019 book, Is There Still Sex in the City? She even penned a pilot based on the book, which explored the ups and downs of starting over after divorce at age 50.

“I sold it right at the end of 2018. If they’d done it really quickly, it would’ve been so right for the pandemic: it was about women who’d moved out of the city, who were dating–younger guys, but also someone who says he’s 75 but is actually 87, which is a real thing that happened,” she told The New Yorker. “The pandemic happened, and the project fell apart. But I’m going to retool it. I have all these ideas, being back in the city, meeting people of all ages.”

Cut to fallen actor Chris Noth who lost it all after he was accused by multiple women of sexual assault, texting Candace like: “Hey, yeah, I thought that show was dumb too. Remember my Peloton thing? Crazy. Anyway, if you need someone to play a dapper man in your next series? I’m very available!”

Cynthia Nixon And Nicole Ari Parker Responded To Meghan McCain Saying “Wokeness” Ruined “And Just Like That…”

Well, we’ve done it now. Because we cracked a few jokes about the ham-fisted way the writers of And Just Like That… tried to address the lack of diversity in Sex and The City, Meghan McCain wanted to get in on the fun. Only Meghan wouldn’t know fun if it was crimped, curled, teased, twisted, and sitting on top of her head wrapped in a bow. Since she no longer has The View on which to obnoxiously opine, Meghan #TookToTheDailyMail to drag AJLT complaining that “wokeness kills everything.” According to People, Andy Cohen asked the cast of AJLT for their reactions to Meghan’s DM op-ed on his Sirius XM show, and my oh my do those ladies look tired.

But seasoned politician that she is, Cynthia Nixon rallied and gave an impassioned speech about “pushing boundaries and shaking people up.” According to People:

Show stars Cynthia Nixon and Nicole Ari Parker expressed disagreement with McCain’s stance after the former The View cohost, 37, called out the Sex and the City reboot in her Daily Mail column in late December. McCain slammed the show’s “clumsy attempt to reformat … into the woke and puritanical times we are living in.”

Andy Cohen interviewed the cast on his Sirius XM show Saturday, where he asked Nixon to respond to McCain’s claims AJLT is “too [politically correct].”

Nixon, 55, who reprises her role as Miranda Hobbes on AJLT, said, “I disagree. The show became so beloved — reruns for all those years,” adding later, “I feel like people have watched it, and they know it so well, inside and out.”

Nixon continued, “Because people know it so well, they have enshrined it in nostalgia. But this is a show that has always pushed every kind of boundary. I think that that’s what’s so magnificent about the new show — about how many different directions we’re going with that, and pushing boundaries and shaking people up.

“And most importantly, shaking the characters up,” Nixon added. “We don’t want to see these characters … comfortable. We want to see them out of their comfort zones.”

And seasoned Black woman that she is, Nicole Ari Parker narrowed her eyes ever so slightly and said “comments like that say more about the person saying them.” That’s right, Meghan had her wig snatched and she didn’t even notice!

Parker, 51, who plays AJLT’s Lisa Todd Wexley, chimed in to directly address McCain’s comments, telling Cohen, “Comments like that say more about the person saying them.”

Parker continued, “What’s too much? Maybe in your living room or when you step outside, it looks the same as inside, and you go to the grocery store and it’s the same. Maybe it is too much for you. For these characters in New York City, it’s not.”

Naturally, in her op-ed, Meghan’s objections are argued with her signature scent of willful ignorance, intellectual dishonesty, straw men and lots and lots of Aqua-net. It’s called Eau de This Bitch. She writes, via The Daily Mail for example, Carrie now plays the part of the “cisgender woman? on a podcast with younger co-hosts.

One of them is — of course — queer and nonbinary. Because it’s so boring and un-evolved to be a straight white woman.

I don’t know who to blame, the writers of the show or this particularly stupid and repressive time we are living in.

The first time I ever heard about anal sex or a vibrator was on this show – now entire plotlines are dedicated to microaggressions.

Meghan apparently still has some outstanding questions about anal sex and vibrators she needs to be answered. But given #ThesePuritanicalTimes we’re living in, I’m sure Che Diaz will be addressing that next season. Probably somewhere totally inappropriate like in the back row during one of Charlotte’s daughter’s piano recitals. Because how else are boring un-evolved straight white women supposed to learn?

Here are the ladies playing The Brady Has A Lot Of Sex Bunch for Andy.

HBO Has Renewed “And Just Like That” For A Second Season

I’m afraid we haven’t seen the last of Che Diaz. Since Twitter had such a raucous time roasting And Just Like That, it seemed inevitable that HBO would take credit for starting a cultural conversation and renew it for a second season. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s exactly what happened. AJLT, HBO’s sort-of sequel to Sex And The City, will be returning, and given that most of the success of the first season seemed largely due to humanity’s inability to look away from the sight of blood-soaked overalls, mangled Monolos and characters eviscerated beyond recognition, I fear we can expect even more of the same.

Naturally, the three remaining leads, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristen Davis will be returning, and accused sexual predator Chris Noth will not. And if we’re lucky, the Peloton will strike again causing Miranda to fall off and hit her head, giving her amnesia and a fresh start. THR reports:

The streamer has picked up a second season of And Just Like That, the Sex and the City sequel that wrapped its 10-episode first season in February. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis — who all serve as executive producers — reprised their roles from the 1998-2006 HBO series.

“I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters — played by these powerful, amazing actors,” said showrunner Michael Patrick King in a statement. “The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just like That… our Sex life is back.”

Added HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey, “We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much. We are proud of the work Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen. We can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for season two.”

King hinted at a second season in a post-finale interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “I want to know more about all the new characters. I want lots more,” he said. “We have no answers, but we have a lot of questions.”

Wait, MPK is the showrunner! Shouldn’t he be the one answering those questions, not asking them? I’m beginning to get a clearer picture now of how this sausage got made. MPK writes his questions on little slips of paper, puts them inside one of Carrie’s ridiculous hats, flies to a Florida retirement home, and asks random residents to pick a question and answer it as best they can. Come on Bubbe Rose, “what does a 40-something non-binary comedian living in New York City in the year 2022 think about cancel culture? Quickly now, don’t think about it too hard, we’ve got magic to do!

The Second Season Of “And Just Like That…” Premieres In June And There’s A Trailer

Carol Anne from Poltergeist voice: “They’re heeere!” The Sex and the City spin-off, And Just Like That…, is back, baby! Variety reports that HBO Max dropped the show’s second season trailer and announced it will premiere sometime in June. OK. That gives us 5-7 weeks to get a lobotomy so we can actually enjoy this crap.

The teaser trailer opens with a shot of New York City, accompanied by narration from our girl Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker): “If you’re lucky, no matter what life hands you, you can always count on your closest friends to be there.” Unless your friends are played by Kim Cattrall, in which case they’ll move to London, England, after a fight about money and not even come back for your husband’s funeral. The rest of the trailer has the usual stuff: characters walking down the street in statement outfits, brunches, dinners, shoes, purses, Carrie hooking up with new guys, and the return of Sara Ramirez’s Che Diaz (BOOOOO)! The trailer ends with Carrie saying, “And just like that… I realized some things are better left in the past. But maybe… not everything.” That’s when we see Carrie’s ex, Aidan (John Corbett). Ugh, please! Leave him in the past! Save him from this drivel! Here’s the trailer:

Wait a second… did I spy with my little eye… Victor Garber?:

Other guest stars include Oliver Hudson, Ivan Hernandez (he’s back as Carrie’s podcast producer), and Gary Dourdan. They’ll join returning stars Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Evan Handler, Nicole Ari Parker, Sarita Choudhury, and Karen Pittman. Last we saw the gals, Carrie was making out with the podcast dude and moving on from the death of Mr. Big, Miranda had left poor Steve for Che Diaz and was moving to L.A., and Charlotte was still married to Harry (thank Christ) and raising her two teenagers. In an interview last spring, showrunner Michael Patrick King said his goal for the second season would be to make the new cast members, played by Nicole, Sarita, and Karen, part of the bigger friend group.

As much as I loathed the first season of And Just Like That…, I will still watch every episode of Season 2. Sorry, it’s my fatal flaw. But there isn’t enough marijuana in the world to get me through the “Aidan returns” episode. Hence, the lobotomy.

Samantha Jones Is Back! Well, She’s Back For One Scene In The Second Season Finale Of “And Just Like That…”

$

The gang is back together! Well… not really… not at all, actually. But through the magic of television editing and paying actresses huge sums of money (hopefully), Kim Cattrall‘s Samantha Jones will return to the Sex and the City revival And Just Like That… for the season 2 finale. But the gag is, Samantha was not even in the room with the other stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, or Kristin Davis, which is tragic because I think Kim actually only hates SJP. But it was obviously like pulling teeth to get her on the series, so we’ll just have to settle for a Samantha Jones cameo.

AJLT… has been trying to get us to pay attention to the second season harder than a male pop star gay-baits before an album release. They’re bringing back Aiden (played by John Corbett), and they’ve pitched him and Carrie kissing already, so they don’t really care about spoilers–CLEARLY–I mean, this Samantha news is spoiler-fucking-central, but how would we know to watch unless they told us?!

While Kim and SJP’s public falling out seemed to seal the deal that Samantha would never return apart from in text message form, someone at Max (formerly known as HBO Max) must have decided to stretch those purse strings and lure Kim in with some extra decimal points or something. I mean, who knows what Kim’s demands were, but considering she didn’t see or speak to any of the women, I’m pretty sure it was something like: “I’ll do it if I don’t have to speak to or see anyone.” via Variety:

But she will only appear in one scene. According to sources, Cattrall shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with the stars of the series, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or with And Just Like That… showrunner Michael Patrick King.

In the scene, Samantha, who in the show has moved to London, will have a phone conversation with Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw. In the first season of And Just Like That… Carrie engaged with an estranged Samantha over text, and in the finale, the two made a plan to see each other in order to reconcile.

Another of Kim’s demands must have been that the original and iconic Sex and the City costume designer, Patricia Field, dress her. Because Pat Field, who hasn’t worked on AJLT, did Samantha’s costume for that one scene. Reps for Kim and Max didn’t respond to requests to comment, but Variety says that Kim’s episode will air in August, and this is just a one-and-done situation.

SJP has previously talked about how she doesn’t want Kim to come back into the SATC universe because of all the “public history of feelings on her part that she’s shared.” Welp… looks like Kim shared her feelings all the way to an easy check! I’m a little sad that Samantha won’t get to be in a scene with Sara Ramirez as Che Diaz because Samantha would probably read that trick with just one look, and it’d instantly become the best part of that revival.

UPDATE: A new trailer for the second season dropped, but sadly it’s Samantha-less.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, And Cynthia Nixon Respond To Kim Cattrall’s Cameo Appearance On “And Just Like That..”

$

Kim Cattrall returning to the Sex and the City universe by finally reprising her role of Samantha Jones in the revival, And Just Like That…, is the only reason to watch season two I can think of. But that doesn’t mean that these tricks won’t pretend that this was a “leak” while they mitigate our expectations now that they’ve realized giving us Samantha-blue balls will probably just turn us off after we get a taste of her and are forced to move on. So Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon have all talked about how this is just a brief little thing, it’s just a taste, don’t be disappointed, blah, blah, blah. No, I will be disappointed, I’m already let down, and no one can tell me otherwise!

It was revealed at the beginning of the month that Samantha will end up on the second season of  AJLT… after initially declining to ever be associated with SATC and SJP in any way, shape, or form. The other actresses have spoken up about Samantha’s return and how her cameo is really for the fans and is not a huge moment in the series. Translation: “Please, please, please, please, pretty please, don’t be mad when the best part of the show lasts for less than five minutes of screen time.” via Entertainment Weekly:

“Samantha is present in season 1 and more so in season 2 via text. It was just a nice nod to the 25 years [of Sex and the City] to add the face to the text,” Parker says. “And it’s a really opportune moment in the story, [a] consequential event happening in Carrie’s life, that Samantha rings and they have this quick, lovely, sentimental, funny call. And it just feels normal and really nice, and I’m glad that we could manage it and work it out and get it sorted time-wise and schedule-wise.”

“We had a conversation about it and we decided that it was right for the fans,” says Kristin Davis… “The fans miss Samantha. The fans love Samantha. Samantha’s a fantastic character. We get it…. It seemed like something that would be great to do… It also seemed like we had to honor the story… Sometimes people aren’t in your life every day, but that doesn’t mean that you’re not connected… I can’t give anything else away about the story, ’cause we’re trying to keep what secrets are left secret, but it makes sense for the circumstance that it’s in…”

“It’s such a bummer that the cat got outta the bag and that it was leaked, ’cause we went to so many lengths to try to hide it,” Nixon tells EW. “The thing that we were also really excited about was to have nobody be expecting Samantha and then have her pop in… I just hope it’s not just a tremendous anti-climax, to be frank,” Nixon says.

“Now that [fans] know about it, it seems like this very large thing, but it’s not really a very large thing,” Davis echoes. “So I’m hoping that people are happy.”

They also had words to say about Samantha’s cameo in an interview with The Daily Mail. SJP said this via Deadline:

“We’ve been really thoughtful about the ways in which we’ve, you know, approached characters that hadn’t been around, the ways we have invited actors back and it’s been, you know, really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic, but I think more than that, it’s been a lot of joy.”

And Kristin said:

“We just thought that, you know, it would be fun for the fans to have a little bit of Samantha because we know that they miss her and she’s a great character… I don’t know that we’re even trying for closure at this point, or resolution. I think we just thought you know, here is, you know, our character who’s been gone. And we know people miss her and Carrie misses her… And wouldn’t this be great to have a little bit of her, you know, that’s what we wanted. And then I think maybe hopes have been lifted, possibly higher than that. And that was not our intention. So I hope people aren’t disappointed.”

Kim Cattrall needs to realize the power she holds here. She needs to get her own spin-off–look at how excited we are by her and how her star power is now forcing the other three to tone her appearance down! She could be the lead on Samantha and the City, all about Samantha secretly living in New York City while avoiding Carrie at all costs. We would all watch that!
